Choosing an Ayurvedic doctor: a patient checklist

Practical questions on qualifications, pharmacy transparency, privacy and when to combine care with modern medicine.

5 May 2026

Ayurveda ranges from serious clinical practice to wellness marketing. A short checklist protects your time and safety.

Credentials & scope

Ask about formal qualifications (e.g. BAMS and any postgraduate training). For para-surgical care such as Ksharasutra, surgical training and case volume matter.

Pharmacy & pressure

Good clinics explain why a medicine is suggested, for how long, and what to watch for. Be wary of large prepaid packages sold before examination.

Integration, not isolation

For diabetes, heart disease, pregnancy and cancer care, classical support should coordinate with your other doctors — not replace emergency or specialist care in secret.
